Meet The Academy
Cahil-William Penga Ilenga
Could you briefly introduce yourself?
My name is Cahil-William, I was born on 8 November 2011, so I am a fourteen-year-old footballer. I started playing football at the age of six at Visé BMFA, before moving to Standard, where I started in the U10s. I am two-footed and mainly play as a striker or winger. This season, I also played as number 10 and wing back.
What inspired you to start playing football? What is your first memory?
The player who has inspired me the most is undoubtedly Cristiano Ronaldo. I find his mentality and work ethic truly impressive. It clearly shows that nothing can be taken for granted and that effort and commitment are essential if you want to succeed in life and build a long career.
What is your strongest point in the game and what aspect of your game would you like to improve?
I think my speed, technique and vision are my greatest assets. However, I realise that I still need to become a much more complete footballer, so I try to improve during every training session.
What is the most important aspect for a successful professional career?
In my opinion, commitment, mentality and good support are crucial to building a professional career. To achieve your goals, you need to be extremely focused and never give up. There will always be moments when things don’t go your way, and it’s important to persevere. I also think it’s important to treat everyone with respect at all times.
What is your sporting ambition?
My dream is to build a professional career, break through at international level and, who knows, maybe one day play for Real Madrid. I am eager to make my mark on football and make a name for myself: CW7. At the moment, I mainly hope to improve further, to achieve the maximum together with my teammates and to become a more complete player so that I am ready for the next step. The aim now is to get better every day and have fun on the pitch.
What is your fondest memory at Standard?
My best memory is winning the Belgian League title with my U14 mates. This season I often play one category above mine with the U16s. I also thoroughly enjoyed the different training camps abroad.
Who is your favourite player at Standard (current or past)?
My style of playing is similar to Rafiki Saïd’s. He is fast, skilled at dribbling, confident in his talent and respectful to all his teammates.

Who is your favourite player and club abroad?
My favourite team is Real Madrid, and as a player I particularly admire Vinicius Junior at the moment.
