Meet The Academy
Kjell Vanherf
Could you briefly introduce yourself?
My name is Kjell Vanherf (February 22, 2008), and I’m playing for Standard’s U18 team this season. I also have a few squads with SL16 U23. I’m from Riemst (Limburg) and started playing football at the age of 3. My young career has so far taken me to Vlijtingen (2013-2015), STVV (2015-2016), and Standard since 2016. I mainly play on the wings, both as a right-back and a left-back.
What or who inspired you to start playing football? What’s your first memory?
There wasn’t really a moment that stood out. It was mainly playing yourself and watching a lot of football on television.
What is your strongest point and what aspect of your game would you like to improve?
I think my strongest point in football is my passing. I’m also in good physical condition. My biggest focus is consistency in my performance. I still alternate between good and bad moments too often. I’m working very hard on this.
What aspect is most important for a successful professional career?
Besides the obvious answer of having the right mentality and working hard, I also pay attention to a healthy diet.
What is your sporting ambition?
I might not surprise you, but my sporting ambition is to build a professional career, preferably at Standard Liège.
What is your fondest memory at Standard Liège?
The fact that our 2008 class won the Belgian championship three times in a row!
What is your favorite player at Standard Liège (past or present)?
Edmilson Junior.

Who is your favorite player and club abroad?
The Portuguese Ronaldo and Italian club Internazionale.
