Loemba Moko

Career:
Sporting Bruxelles (2019-2021), RWDM* (2020-2021), RWDM (2021-2022), SK Londerzeel (2023-2024), Standard (18.06.2024)

Can you briefly introduce yourself?

Of course. My name is Loemba Moko-Hilaire Gabriël and I am a 15-year-old midfielder who currently plays for Standard’s U16 team. I started playing football at and around OHL because my father played in the first team at the time.

Since then, I joined the Belgian FA and officially signed with a number of clubs: Sporting Bruxelles (13.09.2019-30.04.2021), RWDM* (14.09.2020-30.04.2021), RWDM (15.05.2021-07.06.2022), SK Londerzeel (27.09.2023-30.04.2024), Standard (18.06.2024-present)

I have not yet had the honour of being called up for a national team, either for Belgium or Congo.

Who or what inspired you to start playing football?

The person who has inspired me the most so far is my father. From an early age, I followed all his matches, and to this day it motivates me to become like him.

What is your strongest point? And what aspect would you like to improve?

I think it’s mainly my ball control, as well as my game insight and technique. These are things I’ve practised a lot with my father from the very beginning.  I would also like to improve my defensive skills, especially my strength in one-on-one situations.

What aspect lays the foundation for a professional career?

Personally, I think the mental aspect is extremely important. Both during youth games and in the first team, there are moments when everything goes right and others when the ball just won’t roll. You have to be prepared to be the star of the team, but also to be on the bench, and that’s mentally very tough, especially for a young person. That’s why I think the mental aspect is the most important thing in a career.

What are your sporting ambitions?

My ambition is to break through at Standard! And if I can talk about a dream, then one day I would like to play for Real Madrid. My whole family and I are big supporters of that club.

What is your fondest memory with the Rouches?

I have so many great memories with Standard, but during last season’s preparation, we played in an international tournament in France (Vinci Cup) where we finished second. The whole experience there was wonderful.

Who is your favourite player at Standard?

I grew up with players like Axel Witsel and my uncle Geoffrey Mujangi Bia. Because we look quite similar, I am often asked about Axel’s career.

Who is your favourite player or club abroad?

My favourite player is Rodrygo. I appreciate how he is always in control, has great ball control and can easily take out his opponent with his acceleration. And as a team, it’s Real Madrid.
